Danielle Bechtold

  • Number of months or years you’ve taught: 3 months student teaching
  • Your areas of special interest/expertise in English: Children's literature, Romanticism, British Literature, American Literature until 1886
  • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you: I am extremely passionate about teaching English especially with high school grades. I hope to have a job teaching back in Northeast Georgia. I'm excited to meet everyone and look forward to learning as much as we can!

•Number of months or years you’ve taught:  This is my 2nd year teaching.
•Your areas of special interest/expertise in English: literature
•A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you: I live right outside of Columbus, GA. I went to Georgia Southwestern State University to earn my B.A. I am married and have two dogs. Although I have one year under my belt, I still feel new to teaching. I am very excited about this class and the new ideas and methods I can learn for my career. 

Janie Boyd

·       What grades/courses you will be teaching in the spring: I am currently the Intervention Specialist with a focus on reading.  I teach 3 reading intervention classes,1 writing intervention class (Juniors taking the GHSWT) and 2 10th grade literature classes
·       Number of months or years you’ve taught: 3 years
·       Your areas of special interest/expertise in English: My special interests are vast-I love Gothic Lit (Classic and Southern) and British Literature (Medieval and Victorian) is my favorite to read. 
·       What you’d like us to know: I love reading and am a self-proclaimed Author Stalker. I love visiting indie bookstores and meeting my favorite authors to hear them talk about their books and writing. I have "met" my favorite author, Joshilyn Jackson 3-4 times!  I have 2 great (grown) kids and 2 delightful granddaughters.

  • Number of months or years you’ve taught: One previous semester student teaching
  • Your areas of special interest/expertise in English: British Literature specifically 20th Century Literature and Romanticism, German Romanticism, World Literature specifically Middle Eastern Women Writers and Medieval Love Poetry, Children’s Literature examining how authors portray children in writing, Persuasive/ Argumentative Writing and the writing process, Rhetoric and Communication.
  • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you: I’ve been waiting for a class focused on English content so I’m extremely excited to begin learning as much as possible. I look forward to working with everyone and combining our interests and areas of expertise. I love a great discussion and a class filled with people who have a passion for literature and writing.

  • What grades/courses you will be teaching in the spring: ESOL 1-II beginner class, a ESOL III, IV upper level ESOL course (linked to 11th and 12th grade lit/writing standards), and finally a 9th Lit/Composition course.  The 9th lit course is designed for ESOL students to earn 9th grade lit credit.
  • Number of months or years you’ve taught:  have been teaching for six years, all in ESOL.  My original certification is in Health and P.E., but my first year I got a position in ESOL and have loved it ever since! 
  • Your areas of special interest/expertise in English: ESOL and vocabulary strategies are my areas of interest in English.  


  • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you: I would like the rest of the class to know that I am happy to collaborate and share ideas this semester to the benefit of our students.

  • Your areas of special interest/expertise in English: My area of expertise are post modernism, English romanticism, transcendentalim, and Beat literature.


  • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you: I am a free thinker who is always open to new ideas. I am also passionate in just about everything I do.

  • Your areas of special interest/expertise in English: My areas of special interest/expertise in English are poetry analysis, American Literature and African-American Literature. I specifically enjoy works about oppression.


  • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you: What I would like the rest of the class to know about me is that I'm a positive and friendly person, who can't wait to have my own classroom and share my passion with students. I also love DIY hair projects, and I enjoy dancing.

  • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you:  I am a wife,  the mother of a son and a daughter as well as a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law. I am also the grandmother to two precious grandchildren. I graduated this past May with a BA in New Media and Communication.

  • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you: I think it's better to get to know each other in person. I don't bite and I am always open to lend a helping hand. :)

    • Number of months or years you’ve taught: Student teaching is my first teaching experience
    • Your areas of special interest/expertise in English: I really enjoy British literature and would like to learn more about it.  I also really enjoy discussing poetry and reading young adult literature. 
    • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you: I love being outside on a pretty day and my most recent favorite book is The Blood Gospel. 
    Anna Stephens

    • Number of months or years you’ve taught: I've only been student teaching so far 
    • Your areas of special interest/expertise in English: literature, writing, and public speaking (my undergrad degree is in Rhetoric) 
    • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you: I got my BA in Rhetoric from Georgia College and State University; I love reading and writing; I work in retail, student teach full time and I'm in the one year MAT program; I live on coffee; I come from a family of educators (both parents were/are teachers and administrators and a sister-in-law that teaches high school ELA) and my dream is to be a published author one day.

  • What grades/courses you will be teaching in the spring: I have taught 9th, 10th, and 12th grades, but this year will be only 9th and 10th English.
  • Number of months or years you’ve taught: I have taught for 9 years all in the Houston County system.
  • Your areas of special interest/expertise in English: 
  • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you:  I am originally from Iowa, but have been gone for many years.I love Georgia and don't think my husband of 20 years and I could have found a better place to raise our three kids.

  • What grades/courses you will be teaching in the spring: 9th and 10th ELA
  • Number of months or years you’ve taught: 3 1/2 years teaching
  • Your areas of special interest/expertise in English: I enjoy British Literature (though I currently don't get to teach it) and in depth study of novels.
  • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you: I enjoy reading, going to Athens to cheer on the Dawgs, spending time with my wife, Megan, our dog, Murphy, and our cats, Oliver and Charley.

  • Jace White
  • Name you go by: Jace (It is pronounced like "Jason" minus the second syllable.)
  • School where you’ll be teaching in the spring:  I will be doing my ten week student teaching session at Veterans High School in Houston County. 
  • What grades/courses you will be teaching in the spring: I will be teaching tenth grade honors literature. I have never had my own classroom.
  • Number of months or years you’ve taught: Prior to entering the MAT program and corresponding student teaching assignments, I was a full time substitute teacher for a year.
  • Your areas of special interest/expertise in English:   I have a particular interest in dystopian fiction, regardless if it is considered literature, sci-fi, fiction or YA. I am also interested in using graphic novels and comics as teaching tools and assigned readings. I would say I am particularly skilled at the writing process even if I am not the best at grammar. 
  • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you: My undergrad is in Communication with a concentration in Media Studies. I did most my writing for print media, so I understand the formulaic approach to informative writing and storytelling. I work at Books a Million in Warner Robins. My favorite authors are Neil Gaiman, Kurt Vonnegut and George Orwell. Lastly, my birthday is on our first day of class, January 24th.

  • What grades/courses you will be teaching in the spring: 8th grade ELA and GA History
  • Number of months or years you’ve taught: Four months
  • Your areas of special interest/expertise in English: Creative Writing, Fantasy, Scifi, Literary Fiction, Poetry, Creative Nonfiction, Graphic Novels.
  • A few things you’d like the rest of the class to know about you: I like to write and draw. In fact, my undergraduate degree was in Creative Writing. I hope to teach abroad in Germany for a year or two at some point. Feel free to talk to me whenever you wish.
